Update...

23 hours down, 4 to go.

This post brought to you by the two things fueling me right now, 5-hour Energy and rage.

Thanks...

Thanks, SQL CE. Next time I'd prefer it if you'd just kick me in the slats and steal my wallet.

I'm not Karl Malone, but I still deliver...

I am blogging to you live from my company's first FedEx Day. Before you, the ignorant reader, assume that I work for FedEx, let me assure you that I do not. I don't work for any type of delivery company; I actually work for [local software concern].

FedEx Day is a day when the company gives us 24 hours to work on anything we want and report on it the next day. It is called FedEx Day because you have to deliver something overnight. There are only a few stipulations: we can't work alone--it has to be in groups, we are supposed to work on something that we are passionate about that might be of value to the company (for example, bug-fixing marathons are allowed, launching a pr0n site is not), and we are supposed to have fun. They are providing dinner, breakfast, snacks, prizes, and almost total autonomy in deciding who we work with and what we work on. The company is really stressing that this should be about being creative, working outside the box, and having fun.

Although it will be really interesting to see how this turns out, I did happen to overhear the objections of one shortsighted naysayer:

Billy Nobody: You know what my idea of fun is? Working 8 hours and then going home and doing whatever I want.

Somehow I don't think Young Billy has quite caught the true spirit of FedEx Day.

That Might Not Do What you Think it Does...

The following occurred earlier today:

Rookie Mistake: Hey, I think there might be a problem with [customer authentication system] and possibly [legacy customer authentication system]. I set my password to "screech" and now I can't login using my regular password, which is "bobbybusiness."

Veteran Colleague: Uh... Those aren't the same password, so uhhhh... Uhhhhh...

The Will Ferrell/Ricky Bobby Character the Lives in my Brain: Did that blow your mind? THAT JUST HAPPENED!
